ALOHA TEAM RIDER MARK MATHEWS CLAIMS BIG WAVE AWARD.

Friday 20th February 2009

Sydney, Australia

Huge congratulations go to Aloha team rider Mark Mathews who was recently crowned the Oakley/Surfing Life Big Wave champion!

In a fiercely contested final night of judging, Mark's amazing winning wave was estimated at nearly 14 meters (45 feet) ridden at Cow Bombie in WA's South West on 19 September 2008. The monster ride earned Mark the prestigious award and a fat cheque worth $20k.

Mark, from Maroubra on Sydney's south side, joined the Aloha team in 2005 and is well respected as one of the most fearless big wave free surfers on the planet. Mark well and truly earned this most recent title having relentlessly pursued the biggest, nastiest, craziest waves on the planet over the last five years.

After being awarded the crown Mark commented, “I’m ecstatic, I still think we should have had a paddle-in contest to decide the winner from the finalists. I know it was that close.””

Never one to sit back and rest on his laurels, Mark recently returned from chasing cyclonic swells in Queensland and now has his sights set on chasing qualification onto the World

Championship Tour through an all-out assault on the WQS.

NEW BOARDS

Get yourself down to Aloha Manly and check out our new range of surfboards.

44-46 Pittwater Road, Manly

Surfersvillage Global Surf News, 16 October, 2008 : - - Aloha Surf International is pleased to announce it has entered into a licence agreement with Global Surf Industries to manufacture and distribute a specialised range of Aloha surfboards worldwide.  The arrangement will provide distribution of the iconic Australian surfboard brand through the Global Surf Industries (GSI) core surf dealership network into over 50 countries.

Initially, GSI will offer four models from the Aloha range aimed primarily at the high performance end of the market. The new Aloha GSI models; AFI Pro, AF2 Turbo, the Stryker and the Quickshift have been designed to offer surfers a comprehensive range of performance surfboard options. Aloha Brand Ambassador, Surfboard Manager and former WCT surfer, Richie Lovett, will spearhead the Aloha GSI surfboard program.

Richie spoke enthusiastically about the opportunity. “We wanted to make sure the new models offered something for pros and elite level surfers right through to the weekend surfer. The range itself features two high performance short board variations, an all-round short board and a performance fish model.

Although each model is designed primarily for performance surfing we have structured the sizes to offer a valid option for the intermediate surfer as well. A great deal of time and energy has gone into designing these boards and translating feedback from our team riders has been a key part of the formula to producing this specialised Aloha GSI range”.

GSI has built an enviable reputation for surfboard manufacturing excellence and have created a superb global sales and distribution network that will now include the famed Aloha brand which will sit alongside the existing brands of Webber, McTavish, Walden, Modern, South Point, 7S, NSP and Blue.

GSI President and Managing Director, Mark Kelly believes, “The addition of Aloha will add an exciting new dimension to our current product range and will offer our dealers a complete solution for their customers. Aloha has maintained a strong position for quality and performance surfing since its inception and the pedigree of the brand linked to former world champion surfers and the current Aloha team riders will allow us to showcase the brand globally like never before.”

Richie adds; “We are excited about this deal as it means we will be working closely with the current team riders including, Luke Munro, Mark Matthews, Zahn Foxton, Matt Bemrose and Jarrah Tutton to continually develop, test and evolve our designs to meet the needs of surfers everywhere. Having access to these ‘test pilots’ is invaluable because it ensures the right product goes to market.”

The Aloha GSI range will be available in Australian stores this summer. Northern Hemisphere release will be March 2009.

Background: The Aloha brand has a history that stretches over 30 years with former World Champions and many of the world’s top professional surfers having enjoyed success riding Aloha surfboards. From its inception back in 1978 Aloha steadily rose to become one of the most popular and recognizable surfboard brands around the world. Aloha currently houses a stable of world-class shapers and maintains a high profile team of quality surfers.
