Back in 1978 Australia’s beaches were rapidly becoming the epicentre of world surfing. With a stack of world champions and surf professionals living on the coast, particularly on Sydney’s northern peninsula, it created the perfect environment for shaper, Greg Clough, to set up shop. With no money, a wife and a dog named “Rusty”, establishing a surf business seemed like an impossibility, however with a hoarde of local and professional surfers begging for good quality, well shaped boards, and chanting, “build it and we will come” Greg Clough launched ALOHA SURFBOARDS in Brookvale and the company has never looked back.

From its inception Aloha quickly gathered a reputation amongst the local surfers and pros alike for quality. In 1979 a young Barton Lynch came on board followed by an even younger Damien Hardman shortly after, both were to claim successful World Titles with Damien backing up for number 2 in 1990. Aloha’s first girl team member Pam Burridge, won the Ladies World Championship in the same year.

The team has always been one of Aloha’s strengths. Aloha’s own team reads like a who’s who of surfing with most long term members joining in the junior ranks before making their way to ASP WCT/WQS tours of today. Over the years surfers such as Richard Cram, Shane Powell, Chris Davidson, Beau Emerton, Luke Egan, Johnny Boy Gommes, Nathan Hedge, Dayyan Neve, Kai Otton, and now with the likes of Mark Matthews, Richie Lovett, Matt Bemrose, and Drew Courtney have all used Aloha surfboards as part of their successful surfing careers.

For the past 20 years Aloha's boards have featured on the elite WCT tour. This is a great hallmark which supports Aloha's commitment to excellence.

Professional surfing has helped to drive the Aloha design levels and standards of excellence. Aloha has also thrived because the boards have broad appeal for recreational and hardcore surfers alike.

The Aloha ethos is “surf & beach lifestyle” which is driven daily by everyone involved, the long hair and beads of the sixties and seventies may have long disappeared but the cornerstone of the company and brand is still, SURF and has always been SURF.

With this cornerstone philosophy of surf driving the enormous amount of Aloha product available today; it is reassuring to know that the heritage and foundation of a true surf company such as Aloha Surfboards has remained true to core surf heritage and beginnings.
